Why did I think Cabbage rolls were hard to make?
For Christmas my Oma gave me a cookbook, The Menonnite Girls Can Cook Cookbook. She gave them to all her grandaughters so that we can cook just like her! wahoo! If you have an Oma.. you know that they cook good food. This was perfect timing because I really wanted to learn how to make cabbage rolls!
There are so many different versions for making cabbage rolls, the Mennonite Girls have a few on their site, not the one from the cookbook but very similar. If you want the one from the cookbook, you gotta buy it :-) All proceeds go to charity!
I Boiled the cabbage in a big pot. Next time I do this I would core the cabbage first, makes it way easier for the leaves to come off the cabbage. Then I placed the individual cabbage leaves on a plate, ready for rolling! I used about 1/4 of meat mixture per roll, but you can add more or less depending on the size of your leaf.
I made about 2 dozen cabbage rolls. Just enough for a dinner for 5 adults and one mini person, plus lunches the next day and another dinner. Perfect meal for a cold winter evening! Like it has been all week! This is something you just gotta make and you will see that its not hard at all, totally rewarding because they were finished in a flash!
I gotta thank my parents for some great pics in my "blog photo shoot"
